As with all things Swedish, nothing is superfluous in the design of the XC90. But Volvo plays their trump card with the 2018 CX90 Hybrid, the latest installment of an already impressive range. Meticulous design aspects and a careful consideration of each passenger's needs makes this an exciting offering from an already impressive line. Discover what the 2018 Volvo XC90 Hybrid has to offer.

Trim Levels

The XC90 Hybrid range offers customers four different trim levels which are the Excellence, Inscription, R-Design, and Moment. The exterior reveals only minor design changes between the various trims such as the alloy wheels and front air vents. The R-Design also sports a slightly different grille to compliment the vents. The Excellence is the luxury model of the range and is ideal for those who are chauffeured.

Engine

Although there are four different trims available to customers, the engines of the Hybrid models are standard across the board. It starts off with a basic T8 twin engine 8-speed Geartronic engine, which is far from standard. This is paired up with an automatic transmission which is the only transmission option for customers.

Performance

With a T8 engine, there is the expectation that performance will be on par but there is always a slight hesitation with a hybrid engine. The XC90, however, doesn't fail to deliver as it harnesses every inch of that engine to push out a more than satisfactory 400 horsepower. There is also 640 pound-feet of torque to power this smooth ride through the hills and valleys of the elite. As a hybrid, there is also a high demand for sustainability and this engine has CO2 emissions of only 49 grams.

Interior

Apart from the Excellence which is a 4-seater, the XC90 range offers comfortable seating for seven passengers. It offers SiriusXM from the base model and a 4-zone electronic climate control. It also offers 4-way power adjustable lumbar support and leatherette upholstery for the base model and Nappa leather for the other trims. Linear walnut wood inlays can be expected in the Inscription and Excellence models. The Excellence model also boasts a Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system.

Safety Features

Volvo is known for its attention to detail when it comes to safety and the XC90 range is no different. Adaptive cruise control and the lane keeping aid make road trips a little easier to manage. It also features road sign information technology and an intelligent driver information system. Collision mitigation support is ideal for high-traffic situations, pilot assist works well with the adaptive cruise control. Park assist and hill descent control give drivers further peace of mind. The Excellence model also features a park assist pilot along with front and rear park assist. Volvo has been a trusted brand since it first made its way off the Swedish sales floor in 1927, and it tends to be a market leader where safety is concerned. This is not at the cost of style, as the Volvo oozes sophistication and flair. Careful attention to detail and consideration for what clients want make the 2018 XC90 Hybrid range one of the most sought-after SUVs today.
